A circular shaped pewter plaque commemorating the laying of the first corner stone for the new City Hall by the Right Honourable Charles Theophilus Metcalfe Governor General of British North America on the Anniversary of the Birth Day of Queen Victoria in 1843. The plaque is engraved with the dedication and the names of the city councilors at the time and the chief people involved in the buildings construction. The date "A.D. 1843" and name" G.E. Searles Sc" is at bottom. On reverse, centre , a "S" in fancy script.
This pewter plaque was found by workman during the 1973 renovations of City Hall.
