History

This shoe heel fragment was found in the early 2000s when a vast archaeological project was conducted in Market Square.

Leather shoe heels emerged in the 16th century as a practical and stylish component of footwear, initially used to elevate riders' feet in stirrups and later becoming a fashion staple for both men and women. Today, leather heels are valued for their durability, aesthetic appeal, and ability to be reshaped or replaced, maintaining their prominence in formal and casual shoes.
