A commemorative button made for the ‘Old Home Week’ event held in Kingston as part of the Centenary of the incorporation of Kingston as a municipality in 1838. The button has a white background and is printed with an image of Murney Tower and reads "Kingston Centenary 1838-1938 Old Home Week July 30 - Aug 6". There is a blue ribbon incorporated as part of the button which has faded with illegible black writing. The button can be affixed to other materials with the metal pin on the reverse.
This badge relates to the ‘Old Home Week’ event held in Kingston from July 30th t0 August 6th 1938 as part of the Centenary of the incorporation of Kingston as a municipality in 1838. To celebrate the city of Kingston’s centennial year, special events were concentrated during ‘Old Home Week’ in August of 1938. The parade began at the exhibition grounds and extended for over 1.5 miles and took 45 minutes to pass at any given point along the route. Local businesses, institutions, clubs and groups, as well as individuals entered floats in the parade.
The illegible part of the ribbon reads "KINGSTON // OLD BOYS // Reunion // July 30 - Aug 6th 1938". The term Old Boys likely refers to former residents of Kingston and their reunion acted as a sort of 'homecoming' event.
