Description

A square shaped piece of red fabric that has drawings, text and paintings haphazardly over the entire surface. In one corner there is a blue and green representation of the earth with a black coloured drawing of an air plane beside it. Various words and sayings written in black read: "You fought with HONOUR // We remember with RESPECT // 1914 // THE BRAVE ONES // 2014 // CEF // ARMY // AIRFORCE // NAVY // SPECIAl FORCES // Our freedom is thanks to them!". Written on the fabric are also the names of the soldiers "George Pearkes // Hampden Cockburn // Robert Combe", who won the Victoria Cross in the First World War.

History

In November of 2014, a temporary memorial was draped over the two arms of the sculpture "Time" that is located in Breakwater Park. The two arms were wrapped in approximately 100 metres of bright red fabric that was adorned with images, stories, poems and other mementos that highlight the men and women who fought and died for their country in the last century.

The project was titled A Time Remembered and was the work of about 300 art and history students from grades 7 to 12 at Frontenac Secondary School and Module L'Acadie. It was created to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.

This object is a small section of the larger memorial that draped the sculpture.
