Description

A painting of the Cataraqui Room that is located in Kingston's City Hall. It is housed in a gold painted wooden frame. The painting depicts the Cataraqui room after the 1973 renovations. An indistinguishable signature is in the bottom right corner. A sticker is adhered with clear tape on the back with "Property of the corporation // of the city of Kingston".

History

In the early 1970s, Kingston City Hall was closed for one year and extensively renovated. Architects for the restoration were Harry P. Smith and Neil K. MacLennan. The building cost $2.8 million to renovate and restore. Work was started in 1971 and finished during the city's Tercentenary (300th anniversary) in 1973. The official opening was held January 1, 1974.
