A mishapen piece of shoe leather. Dark brown in colour with holes around the perimeter, uniformly spaced.

History

This shoe fragment was found in the early 2000s when a vast archaeological project was conducted in Market Square.

Shoe leather, historically crafted from animal hides like cow or calf, has been used for its durability and flexibility, forming the foundation of footwear from sandals to modern dress shoes. Its use continues today in highquality shoes, prized for breathability, natural texture, and the ability to mold to the wearer’s foot over time.
