Description

Indeterminate variety of 8 cobbler's nails. Small, appear to be machine made nails for a shoe heel.

History

This shoe heel fragment was found in the early 2000s when a vast archaeological project was conducted in Market Square.

Shoe nails, small metal fasteners, are used to reinforce leather soles and heels, enhancing durability and stability. Today, they are less common but still employed in traditional cobbling and highend shoe repair for their strength and ability to securely attach soles, particularly in rugged or formal footwear.
