Description

This is a soft cover booklet about Kingston's hosting of the sailing events for the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, published by the Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXI Olympiad, Montreal 1976. The front cover has a light blue and white background with a cloud pattern, and a wavy rainbow band running horizontally across the centre with three sailboats on it. At the top of the cover is the Montreal Olympic logo in red, and the title "Kingston 1976" in black text. The back cover has the same blue and white cloud pattern with a rainbow band and sailboat illustrations. The book contains written information and photographs about topics relating to Olympic yachting and sailing, the history of Kingston, and the City's preparations for hosting the sailing events for the 1976 Olympics. 

History

In 1976, Montreal hosted the Summer Olympic Games, the XXIst Olympiad. The events largely took place in Montreal, but some were held elsewhere; Kingston was chosen as the location for the sailing events, which were held at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour between July 19th - 27th,1976. 

This booklet was published by the Organizing Committee for the 1976 Montreal Olympics. It is divided into sections on different topics relating to Olympic sailing and yachting, as well as Kingston’s role in the 1976 Olympics, accompanied by photographs: an introduction to the sport of yachting in the Olympics; yachts and yacht racing; yachting in the Olympic Games; Kingston 1976; and ‘The Future’.
