A yellow cigarette box commemorating Kingston's Tercentenary Celebration in 1973 designed to hold 25 king-sized cigarettes. The box has an interior (a) which forms the structure of the box, including the top and bottom sides, as well as reinforcement for the sides. The box also has an exterior slip which holds the cigarettes inthe box. "MacDonald Tobacco Inc., Montreal, Canada" is printed on the bottom side of the box. "City Hall // 25 Filter Kings // From the MacDonald Lassie Tercentenary Collection" is printed on the front of the box alongside a portrait of a woman wearing a tam and a depiction of Kingston City Hall. The back of the box has information in both English and French on the origins of Kingston. "Kingston 300" is printed on nearly every side of the box. There is a health warning printed on the left side of the box. There is a tax stamp on the box, half of which is on the exterior slip while the other half is on the top. The front of the box has been signed by Canadian visual artist R. D. Wilson.
The cigarette box was made by the Montreal Tobacco Company exclusively for Kingston's Tercentenary in 1973. As a gift to the City the Montreal Tobacco Co commissioned artist R.D. Wilson, whose signature is on the box, to create 30 sketches of Kingston.
The Kingston Tercentennial was a commemoration of the 300th anniversary of Count Frontenac’s landing in Canada around the Kingston area.
