Colourful tapestry woven by the Kingston Handloom Weavers Guild to celebrate Kingston's Tercentenary. On it are woven images of Kingston's past including, City Hall, a Martello Tower, and the triumphant arch at the Royal Military College (RMC). The tapestry is attached at the top to a wooden bar in order to hang it.
This tapestry was woven by the Kingston Handloom Weavers and Spinners to commemorate the tercentenary of Kingston. Designed by Anastasis Tamosaitis, a local artist of international renown, the four foot by six foot tapestry was two years in the making. Approximately 24 members of the guild tied 350 rows of Ghiordes knots of tapestry wool on the linen warp. The design is in three sections, depicting the landmarks and events of the three centuries since the landing of Count Frontenac in 1673. Presented to the City of Kingston in 1973 by the Kingston Handloom Weavers and Spinners, the tapestry hangs in City Hall as a documentary of our history.
